Posted: Updated:

HEPHZIBAH, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a Wrens police officer was 1 of 2 people killed in a motorcycle accident in the east Georgia town of Hephzibah.

Wrens police said in a statement that 26-year-old Officer Kyterian Jones was driving the motorcycle when the wreck happened Sunday night. Authorities said Jones, who had joined the department in February, was off-duty at the time.

Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen said Jones lost control of his vehicle, veered off the road and struck two pedestrians and a parked car in the 2900 block of Ulm Road.

The Augusta Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/13Tn3ip) that Jones and 1 of the pedestrians died at the scene. Richmond County sheriff's Sgt. Monica Belser said the other pedestrian was hospitalized.

The name of the pedestrian who died was not immediately released.
