Boston honors fallen soldier's with revamped street signs

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON ( – On Monday, city officials, including Mayor Tom Menino, unveiled a new initiative called "Boston's History of Heroes" which is meant to transform the public's experience with the 1,285 Hero Square street signs currently posted throughout the city.

Mayor Menino made the announcement during a dedication to the late Sergeant Alberto Montrond in Roxbury.

Sgt. Montrond was killed in the line of duty in Afghanistan back in 2006. His family also attended the dedication.

The project will include a street sign to be installed on existing Hero Square street posts that will display biographical information about the fallen service members and allow the public to access associated online content.

More than 1,200 signs will be updated.
