SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Police in Springfield say a man who allegedly attacked officers with an axe was shot and wounded.
Two officers were hurt injured in the incident Monday night on Irvington Street, but those injuries do not appear to be serious.
Police Lt. Henry Gagnon tells the Republican newspaper of Springfield (http://bit.ly/12ZLXtD ) that the suspect who was shot by police was taken to Baystate Medical Center where he was reported to be in serious but stable condition. The man's name was not immediately released.
Police said more information about the incident would be made public on Tuesday.
