BOURNE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Five people were sent to the hospital following a head-on crash Sunday night on the Sagamore Bridge.
Police said an SUV was going the wrong way and slammed into another SUV at about 11:18 p.m. State police say the driver going the wrong way was 25-year-old Dorothy Hitchcock, of Provincetown, who was driving a 2013 GMC. According to state police, Hitchcock sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Jordan Hospital for treatment.
The second vehicle involved was a 2012 Buick being driven by 48-year-old Carmen Whalen, of Williamstown. This vehicle had three passengers, two of which are Whalen's young children. The adult passenger has been identified as 54-year-old Janice E. Loux, of Williamstown. All of the occupants were taken by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital for precautionary evaluation.
State police say Hitchcock was Operating Under the Influence of Liquor and Drugs and will receive a criminal summons to the Falmouth District Court for the following charges: Operating Under the Influence of Drugs; Operating Under the Influence of Liquor; Possession of Class B; Possession of Class E ( 2 counts); Negligent Operation of Motor Vehicle; Marked Lanes Violation; and Seat Belt Violation.
Traffic on the Sagamore Bridge was closed to all traffic for about two hours while the emergency responders worked the scene and conducted an investigation.
The crash scene is just feet away from where two people were killed in a crash on July 4.
