Quincy man pleads guilty to fatally running over wife

Posted: Updated:

QUINCY, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A Quincy man with a history of driving problems has pled guilty to fatally running over his wife outside their Hough's Neck home in November of 2012.

Michael Rivard, 49, of Sea Street, was sentenced to 20 months in the House of Corrections for the crash that killed Beatrice Rivard. Following his release, he will have supervised probation with conditions including that he not drive - or his probation could be revoked and he could be sent back to jail.

Rivard pled guilty to the three charges against him: motor vehicle homicide due to negligent operation; operating a motor vehicle after license suspension; and unsafe operation of a motor vehicle.

Police said Rivard ran over his wife and son while they were walking on a sidewalk near their home.

Witnesses said emergency crews had to use a hydraulic jack to lift the car off Beatrice Rivard, while the couple's son was trapped against a utility pole. A neighbor said Rivard seemed horrified after the accident.
