Concern over coyote-on-dog attacks in Westchester

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Mount Kisco, N.Y., residents are scared for their children. They say a recent coyote attack on a dog was deadly and vicious.

The coyotes instantly killed a Chihuahua. The owners are urging neighbors to keep an eye on children. The family is in the process of building a fence around the yard.

The neighborhood is close to several preservation areas. Coyotes and other wild animals are not uncommon here.

The dog owners now have pots and pans nearby to scare off the coyotes should the pack reappear.

A state agency is suggesting summer shutdowns at the Indian Point nuclear power plant in the New York suburbs. The idea is to protect migrating and spawning fish who might otherwise get sucked into the plant. Indian Point takes 2.5 billion gallons a day from the Hudson River to make steam and cool its two reactors.
