SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - A Springfield ambulance has been hit by gunfire while responding to a medical call.

Police Lt. Henry Gagnon tells the Springfield Republican that officers and the ambulance crew were at a call on State Street near Hancock Street at about 3:20 a.m. Sunday, when a man came running toward them saying he was being robbed.

Police say two other men then appeared, one firing a handgun.

Nobody was struck by the shots, but one did hit the American Medical Response ambulance, which had a patient inside. No arrests have been made. Police say the robbery victim had been pistol whipped, and was being treated for his injuries.

No arrests have been made. Police were looking for two men wearing white T-shirts.
