Showers, thunderstorms move in Tuesday - Boston News, Weather, Sports | FOX 25 | MyFoxBoston

Chance for pop-up thunderstorm remains into Tuesday evening

FROM FOX 25 METEOROLOGIST SHIRI SPEAR

Showers and thunderstorms tracked from NY into western New England late this morning. The heaviest rain moved eastward along the southern coastal waters and northeastward into NH.

That left most of Mass with lighter scattered showers early afternoon.

We still sit in a muggy and unstable air mass. Until the cold front comes through this evening, the chance for a few pop-up thunderstorms remains.

Looks like rain totals will stay under 0.25" in much of the area today.

The best chance for a strong storm will be along the cold front later this afternoon and tonight. The chances would be much higher with a warm middle of the day frontal passage. Rather, the sun will set at 7:48 p.m. as the cold front draws closer.

Highs will get stuck in the 70s due to cloud cover and showers today.

The front will pull away from the coast overnight and allow much drier air to filer into New England. Muggy conditions caused by dew points in the mid to upper 60s Tuesday will take a drier turn as dew points drop into the lower 50s Wednesday.

Wednesday will still see some clouds, but skies should continuously brighten up. It will be breezy with west winds up to 20 mph.

It will stay sunny Thursday into the weekend with seasonable highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s.
