Randolph man faces new charge in teen's dirt bike death

Posted: Updated:
PLYMOUTH, Mass. (AP) - A Randolph man has pleaded not guilty to upgraded charges brought in connection with a dirt bike crash he was involved in December that took the life of a 14-year-old boy.

Christopher Kelly on Monday pleaded not guilty to a charge of negligent operation of a recreational vehicle resulting in the death. The charge was brought Friday.

The 40-year-old Kelly had previously only been charged with misdemeanor leaving the scene of an accident.

Police say James Ward Jr., a freshman at Plymouth North High School, was killed on Dec. 9 when he and Kelly had an off-road collision.

Authorities say Kelly, who was hurt, left the scene to get help but never returned.

Kelly, an accomplished motocross racer, has expressed remorse, telling The Enterprise that he was suicidal.
