BOSTON (AP) - Seven Democrats and three Republicans have qualified for the primary ballot in the state's special election for the 5th Congressional District.
The seven Democrats include Belmont state Sen. William Brownsberger, Ashland state Sen. Karen Spilka, Melrose state Sen. Katherine Clark, Medford state Rep. Carl Sciortino and Middlesex Sheriff Peter Koutoujian.
Two other Democrats - former Lexington School Committee Member Martin Long of Arlington and Stoneham resident Paul John Maisano - also made the ballot according to the secretary of state's office.
The three Republicans include Boston attorney Frank Addivinola, Framingham veteran Tom Tierney, and Holliston resident Michael Stopa.
All seven candidates are vying for the chance to fill the U.S. House seat left vacant by the election earlier this summer of Edward Markey to the U.S. Senate.
The primary is Tuesday, Oct. 15.
