Pentagon-sponsored report calls Plymouth power plant vulnerable

Posted: Updated:

PLYMOUTH, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A new report sponsored by the Pentagon suggests the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant is among the most vulnerable nuclear plants.

The report lists the Plymouth plant as one of eight most at risk for a sea-based terrorist strike in the U.S.

The 33-page report from the Nuclear Proliferation Prevention Project criticizes federal agencies for failing to boost security requirements at nuclear reactors. The project calls for the installation of floating barriers, similar to ones used to protect Naval submarines.

Despite the nuclear industry spending $2 billion on security over the past two years, the project claims facilities like the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant are still vulnerable.
