Authorities release sketch of taxi driver accused of rape

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – Authorities are asking for the public's help identifying a male suspect accused of raping a woman at the Daly Memorial Rink in Newton on August 6.

The victim told police she was in the Seaport District of South Boston at about 1:30 a.m. and attempted to hail a taxi. A black Lincoln livery sedan stopped and picked her up. The car had a tablet or smartphone mounted on the dashboard which had a map and fare tally app running.

However, instead of driving to the victim's address, he drove to a secluded area in front of a skating rink off Nonantum Road in Newton where he raped and assaulted the victim, authorities said.

The driver is described as a Hispanic or Indian/Middle Eastern male in his late 20s to early 30s. He is roughly 6'0" tall and approximately 230 to 240 pounds, with a muscular build, dark complexion, buzz-cut black hair, and neatly cropped facial hair. He was wearing a polo-style collared shirt and jeans and either a dark-colored do-rag or hat at the time of the assault, police said.

The incident was first reported to the Cambridge Police Department. Once it was determined by Cambridge, Boston and Newton police that the assault took place on state property, it was reported to Mass. State Police.

Detectives held off on releasing a sketch of the suspect because they believed it was in the best interest of the investigation.

Mass. State Police officials say they do not have evidence of similar assaults involving livery truck drivers and they believe the Aug. 6 assault was an isolated incident.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of this suspect or the vehicle he may be operating is asked to contact the Massachusetts State Police at 617-740-7875.
