DETROIT (AP) -

A two-car crash on Detroit's Lodge expressway early Sunday killed a Grand Rapids-area man, his adult son and nephew and injured two other people, Michigan State Police say.

The crash happened about 12:30 a.m. Sunday just north of the Davison Freeway interchange, Lt. Michael A. Shaw said in a statement. He said speed, alcohol and failure to use safety belts "appear to be possible factors in the crash." However, all three of those killed were belted in, he said.

Witnesses saw a 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo traveling north at high speed and then hitting a 2006 Toyota Corolla, also northbound, Shaw said.

"The Toyota overturned as a result of the collision," Shaw said. Three of the four in the car were pronounced dead at the scene, and the fourth was transported to a hospital with injuries that weren't life-threatening, he said.

The Chevrolet had two occupants, Shaw said. He said the passenger was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening, while the 21-year-old male driver from Detroit wasn't hurt.

Those killed were the Toyota's 67-year-old driver, Brian K. Kelly, of Kentwood; Daniel B. Kelly, 31, of Kentwood; and Keeland T. Johns, 18, of Grand Rapids.
