Posted: Updated:

OLD SAYBROOK, Conn. (MyFoxBoston.com) – The town of Old Saybrook, Conn., is apologizing to its residents for sending out a false terror attack alert.

The public address system told residents to take shelter because of an impending terror attack. Officials say the message was sent out over loud speakers in the town because of, what they say, was a series of errors by a police dispatcher.

A reverse 911 call was sent out.

Police said they are reviewing the dispatcher's actions and taking steps to make sure something like this does not happen again.
