From Lauren Sivan:

Dick Van Dyke had a close brush with death today after his car burst into flames on the side of the 101 Freeway near Parkway Calabasas. It was around 2pm Monday when California Highway Patrol got reports of a car on the eastbound shoulder of the 101 smoking. Before CHP got to the scene, a fellow motorist, saw the smoking Jaguar and pulled over to help. Jason Pennington tells TMZ inside the car he saw an elderly man slumped over the wheel. Turns out, it was Dick Van Dyke. Pennington tells the website he pulled Van Dyke out of the car just moments before the engine burst into flames. Not only was Van Dyke uninjured, he gave an interview shortly afterward.

"He thought I was slumped over the wheel but I was trying to call the DMV," he told a TMZ camera. "It was all very exciting!"

Van Dyke's wife Arlene picked him up at the scene. She tweeted a video of the charred Jaguar and posted: "Van Dyke's melted car @iammrvandy He's fine thank God!!"

I met the folks from Gunnar Optiks at CES this year and they had something new to show me. The Intercepts. I have a big head, these are big frames, it was kismet but do they work as good as they look? We'll see.
