Gun, drugs, and cash seized during Cambridge arrests

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Officers arrested two men in the Central Square area of Cambridge Monday night after a plain clothes officer saw what he believed was a suspicious transaction between the two males.

A plain clothes police officer on patrol in Central Square engaged in a brief foot pursuit with two suspects who allegedly engaged in a drug and/or firearm transaction at about 9:30 p.m. One of the suspects was also thought to be concealing a firearm, the officer noted.

After following one of the suspects, the officer identified himself and the suspect took off running into traffic before being apprehended. The suspect was carrying a backpack containing a gun and could not produce a License to Carry and/or Firearms Identification Card.

The other suspect was pursued through Central Square and also apprehended. Police recovered a bag containing 20 grams of marijuana from this suspect.

Ramses Canelus, 26, of Roxbury, was arrested and charged with possession of a large capacity firearm, disorderly conduct, possession to distribute a Class D drug, drug violation near school/park, conspiracy to violate drug law, defacing a firearm serial number, carrying a firearm without license, and possession of a firearm or ammunition without FID card.

Daqwan Collins, 17, of Cambridge, was arrested and charged with possession of a large capacity firearm, disorderly conduct, conspiracy to violate drug law, defacing a firearm serial number, carrying a firearm without license, and possession of a firearm or ammunition without FID card.

The incident remains under investigation.
