Scott Brown announces he won't run for governor in 2014

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Former U.S. Sen. Scott Brown has announced he will not run for governor of Massachusetts in 2014.

Brown posted a statement on his Facebook Wednesday night.

"I indicated many times that I would make an announcement on or before Labor Day," said Brown. "Tonight I announced that I will not be running for Governor of MA in 2014."

The news comes days after Brown visited a state fair in Iowa during his reported exploration of a presidential run.

After reports surfaced about Brown possibly considering a run for president, FOX 25 asked viewers on MyFoxBoston.com Monday which office they would like to see Scott Brown run for. Of the four possible options, 49-percent said governor, 20-percent said president, 5-percent said a U.S. Senator in New Hampshire, and 26-percent said they would not like to see him run for anything. A total of 2,712 people voted.

Brown beat Attorney General Martha Coakley in a 2010 special election for the late Sen. Ted Kennedy's seat. He a lost a re-election bid to Sen. Elizabeth Warren in 2012.

The Republican currently works at Nixon Peabody LLP in Boston and is also a FOX News contributor.

Another top Republican, Charlie Baker, told FOX 25's Sharman Sacchetti that he will make a decision about whether he will run or not by Labor Day.

The full statement posted on Facebook by Scott Brown:

Running for office takes a lot of thought, analysis, money, and sometimes personal sacrifice. I have been honored to serve the people of the Commonwealth and this great country in many capacities for almost 20 years.

My family and I have been deeply moved and honored by your support, encouragement and well wishes.

I indicated many times that I would make an announcement on or before Labor Day.

Tonight I announced that I will not be running for Governor of MA in 2014.

As I said, I am grateful for your encouragement and support.

For the first time in 15 plus years, I have had a Summer to spend with my family. In addition, I have been fortunate to have private sector opportunities that I find fulfilling and exhilarating. These new opportunities have allowed me to grow personally and professionally. I want to continue with that process.

Thank you for your patience and support.
