Woman Blames TSA After Cat Runs Off At Philly Airport

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Sharon Wohlnuth is on a mission. She's passing out flyers to ticket agents and passengers at Philadelphia International Airport.

"I hope she finds her," says Martha Rudolph, a traveler.

Wohlnuth is hoping someone will find August the cat. The ten-month-old cat belongs to her niece Maya Joslow.

We talked to Maya via Skype from her home in Portland, Oregon.

"Very angry. Felt like I wanted to explode," says Joslow. Maya's anger stems from what she calls a lack of immediate help from a TSA agent when August bolted from her arms down the escalator.

"If she couldn't keep her post for her to get me immediate assistance, call a manager, put an announcement out over intercom," says Joslow.

But a TSA spokeswoman says a supervisor did immediately run down the escalator with Maya, where they found the cat hiding in a bathroom. But by the time he went back up the escalator to get the cat's carrier and then came back down, August had clawed Maya's arms and ran away.

"I've had a pit in my stomach," says Joslow. "I keep replaying the scenario over and over again. What if I had thought to have a harness."

Despite her frustration, Maya applauded the Philadelphia International Airport staff for later helping her search for August while traveling through the airport on Monday.

A message was even posted on the visual paging system, alerting passengers to be on the lookout for her cat.

Now she's just hoping the flyers help bring little august home. Maya says August was a gift from her brother after their weekend reunion at LBI.

"He was my first cat, a gift from my brother. So a connection to my family back home," says Maya.

The cat was last seen in the US Airways terminal. The family is offering a $250 reward to anyone who finds it.
