NStar proposes cut in natural gas prices

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (AP) - Natural gas utility NStar says its customers can expect to pay an average of $4 less each month if a proposed rate cut is approved.

NStar has proposed cutting its supply price by nearly 27 percent, or about 39 cents per therm, down from the current price of nearly 53 cents.

If approved by the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities, the price cut will save the average gas customer $4 a month beginning Sept. 1.

The proposed decrease reflects a drop in prices on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

NStar has about 300,000 natural gas customers in Massachusetts.
