Parent meeting for proposed DSA cuts of staff and programs

DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

Detroit Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr held a parent informational meeting Wednesday night, addressing concerns of proposed cuts at the Detroit School of Arts.

Fox 2 crews showed up at the meeting, but were denied access at the door.

A spokesperson told us they feared the media presence would amp up the dramatics, and leave no room to have a rational conversation.

Parents are upset because key programs and staff members are getting cut.

We're told the meeting was cut short, and left parents with more questions now than when they walked in.

Thursday a group of parents, students, and community activists plan to hold a rally outside the Fisher Building at 10AM. They hope to boost the school's enrollment and send a message to DPS officials that the school needs to stay true to its mission: a dedication to the performing arts.
