Drugs may be to blame for violent Worcester crash

Posted: Updated:

WORCESTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Drugs may be to blame for a violent crash in Worcester that sent two people to the hospital, including a police officer.

The incident happened Wednesday morning at the Webster Square Plaza, where the car hit a support post and crashed right into a storefront.

Ryan Hehir, 20, of Shrewsbury, is facing several charges, including operating a vehicle under the influence of narcotics. Witnesses said it appeared the driver was having some sort of a medical episode before the crash and that's when a Good Samaritan and a Worcester police officer jumped in to help.

According to the Worcester Telegram and Gazette, police found evidence of drugs inside the car. Hehir was released from a hospital and is now in police custody.

The officer and another person suffered non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to be OK.

A building inspector has been sent to the shopping plaza to assess the damage to the pillar and storefront.
