Mass. SJC to hear atheist argument against Pledge of Allegiance

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – The state's highest court will hear arguments this week about if having school kids recite the Pledge of Allegiance is a violation of their rights, according to the Huffington Post.

An anonymous atheist group has sued the Acton-Boxborough school district, claiming reciting of the pledge with the phrase "under God" violates the state's equal rights laws.

This is the same law that pro-gay groups successfully used to sue – and win – the right to be the first state to legalize same sex marriage.

A lot of groups in other states will be watching this closely. A hearing is set for Wednesday in Boston.

In 2012, a lower court judge sided with the school district.
