BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – A towel found near Odin Lloyd's body may help Aaron Hernandez's lawyers paint a potential prosecution witness as a liar.
According to a FOX Sports report, a white towel found near Lloyd's body may show that Carlos Ortiz got out of the car he, Hernandez, Ernest Wallace and Lloyd were riding in the night of Lloyd's murder. Ortiz had previously told investigators that he didn't get out of the car and that Wallace had told him Hernandez personally killed Lloyd.
In an affidavit, a detective said Ortiz was seen on gas station surveillance video with a light-colored towel around his neck before the three picked Lloyd up the night of the killing.
FOX Sports also reports that court document show a drug test given to Ortiz a week before Lloyd's killing showed Ortiz had alcohol, cocaine, PCP and THC in his system.
Hernandez's attorneys could use the evidence to portray Ortiz as a drug addict and a liar.
Authorities claim they have surveillance video and text messages that put Lloyd in Hernandez's SUV with Ortiz and Wallace the night of the killing.
Prosecutors allege Hernandez was angry about some of the people that Lloyd was hanging out with at a Boston night club two nights prior to his death. They further allege Hernandez picked Lloyd up in Boston and drove him to North Attleborough where he was shot "execution style."
Hernandez pleaded not guilty Friday to murder and gun charges in Fall River Superior Court.
