Lowell man, 30, seriously hurt in Boxborough rollover

Posted: Updated:

BOXBOROUGH, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A 30-year-old Lowell man suffered life-threatening injuries in a rollover crash Sunday morning in Boxborough.

At 6:50 a.m., state police responded to Interstate 495 northbound, north of Exit 28, where they found a Toyota Corolla had rolled over, ejecting the driver.

The driver was flown to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. He remains in critical condition.

Witnesses told state police the Toyota made contact with a tractor-trailer, causing the Toyota to roll over.

State police found the driver of the tractor-trailer, along with the vehicle, in South Portland, Maine. According to state police, the investigation reveals the tractor-trailer was struck on the side rear of the trailer by the Toyota as the Toyota was attempting to change lanes. A preliminary investigation reveals the driver of the tractor-trailer, a 53-year-old man from Queens, N.Y., did not know the Toyota made contact with the trailer.

No names were released.

The northbound side of the highway was closed from 7:05 a.m. until about 8:50 a.m., at times letting traffic pass only in the breakdown lane.

The crash remains under investigation by state police.
