Ex-Mass. state trooper faces sentencing

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (AP) - Prosecutors are asking a federal judge to sentence a former Massachusetts state trooper convicted of extortion to five years in prison for what they call a pattern of abusive behavior.

John Analetto is scheduled to be sentenced in federal court Tuesday. He was convicted in May of threatening a gambler who owed more than $3,000 to a bookie cooperating with investigators, and fired in June.

According to prosecutors, Analetto stalked and threatened women he pulled over. The Boston Globe reports he also allegedly extorted services, such as car repair work, threatening victims with planting drugs on them or setting up raids on their businesses.

Prosecutors say Analetto's career is "replete" with examples of abuse of authority.

His lawyer could not be reached, but said previously his client abused alcohol.
