Worcester man pleads guilty in fatal shooting

Posted: Updated:

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — A man police say gunned down a member of a rival gang during a daytime brawl outside Worcester City Hall has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

The Telegram & Gazette (http://bit.ly/14HVJRO ) reports that Nathaniel Robinson had faced a murder charge, but pleaded guilty to the reduced charge on Monday and was sentenced to up to 11 years in prison.

Authorities say the 21-year-old Robinson pulled a gun during a dispute in November 2011 and shot 21-year-old Javier Santiago.

Prosecutors say what started as a fight between two men quickly escalated as fellow gang members arrived at the scene.

Robinson fled to New York City after the shooting but was tracked down about a week later.

The man who allegedly gave Robinson the gun used in the shooting awaits trial.
