Kids' School Bus Ride Home Taking Hours, Parents Say

Posted: Updated:

Parents in a Montgomery County school district say they're fed up, waiting for the bus.

These parents say they aren't just waiting a few minutes.

Some people in the Wissahickon School District say they are waiting hours for their kids to get home.

Many turned out to voice their frustration at a town hall meeting last night in Ambler.

Those parents also say the drivers aren't being careful on the road and don't know their routes. And they claim this has been going on for years.

"There was a period of time today I had to leave my office because I wasn't sure where my kids were," parent Rich Palumbo said. "Because when I called the school, they're like, 'I don't know' – listen, that was the response, they're like, 'I'm not sure what's going on. We don't know.'"

Randy William, general manager of First Student, said, "Something broke, and I know the roots of some of the issue. But identifying the broken piece is the key to us having better transportation service on behalf of the district."

The manager of the bus company says drivers were put on notice.

Officials say those drivers may face termination if the safety issues continue.
