UCLA, USC Among Best Universities In US

Posted: Updated:
Los Angeles, CA -

(FOX 11) A few local universities can brag they're among the best in the nation. Gina Silva is on the UCLA campus with the latest college rankings by US News And World Report.

The competition runs deep between UCLA and USC.  If you ask USC students which university is better, they'll tell you their school is superior to UCLA. But UCLA is once again proving that's not true.  The University rankings by U.S. News and World report show both schools are equally great. They are among the best universities in the country.  In fact, both schools moved up from last year. UCLA and USC are tied at number 23 on the list for best universities. They ranked 24th last year.

The schools are ranked based on the academic level of incoming freshmen, how well the students do in college and the graduation rate.

The top 10 best schools this year are Princeton, followed by Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Stanford, the University of Chicago; then a tie among Duke, M-I-T and the University of Pennsylvania; Caltech came in at number 10.

UC Berkeley is the highest-ranked public university, tied with Georgetown for 20th in the overall rating.

Back to the competition between U-S-C and  UCLA, for many years UCLA was ranked higher than USC. Then USC scored a little higher than the Westwood school, but now they're both tied at number 23.

    A Rare Condition

    A Rare Condition

Hell on earth, that's how some doctors describe Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa also known as E.B. It's a horrible genetic disease that Nicky Zahorcak was born with. A lot of his skin is raw, the slightest touch can cause blisters that quickly spread. He says, "Right now, all the bandages that you see everywhere even on my sides, they're all raw skin." His mother Silvia says very few people know about this rare condition and she wants to change that.
