NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (AP) — A man sentenced to eight years of probation after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the death of another man outside a Northampton bar is being sent to jail for violating the terms of his release.
The Daily Hampshire Gazette (http://bit.ly/17UxpAs ) reports that James Duffy Jr. of Easthampton was sentenced to 2 ½ years in jail on Thursday after pleading guilty to violating probationary terms by drinking alcohol.
Duffy pleaded guilty in 2010 in connection with the January 2009 death of John Connell outside the Silk City Taproom.
Prosecutors say Duffy shoved Connell down a set of steps outside the bar after an altercation inside. Connell hit his head on the ground and eventually died.
Duffy failed a Breathalyzer test given by his probation officer on Aug. 17.
