Terry Bradshaw: I'm Happier On 'Even' Days

Posted: Updated:

"I didn't slip this week, I got caught this week...I felt horrible about that."

That's Terry Bradshaw talking about his on-air mistake last week on Fox Sports 1. His microphone caught him saying something not meant for television and it went on the air. The NFL on FOX co-host says he's not taking what happened lightly.

"The perception is maybe that's how you are all the time and that's not the case at all...I wanted to go home really. I was so sick to my stomach about what happened Friday at the FS1 show. I just said you know what? This is Friday the 13th and I hate Friday the 13th. I didn't even realize it was Friday the 13th. I flew out here on Friday the 13th. I would've come a day early or I wouldn't have done that show."

Terry talked to Steve and Maria about all of the big hits this weekend in the NFL and the big hits in general. The four time Super Bowl champ says one of the reasons the game has become all about the monster hits is because that's what gets viewers attention.

"When it moved into the 70's...more cameras...it became a bigger program and the merger of the two leagues and then all of a sudden you started getting more and more rivalries...players were leading with their heads, huge collisions...people were glamorizing it going "oh, what a shot!...it became big shots and TV programs that say "our big shots of the week" and they'd show these collisions and guys getting carried off."

Terry says he took a lot of hits when he played...and is still learning about the consequences all these years later. He recently went to his "brain doctor".

"He says how many concussions have you had Terry? I said 5...when he pulls my MRI test up after 3 days of testing, my God I've had over 80!"

Fun Facts About Terry Bradshaw:

  • He is currently a TV analyst and co-host of Fox NFL Sunday. He played 14 seasons with Pittsburgh, won four Super Bowl titles in a six-year period (1975, 1976, 1979, and 1980), becoming the first quarterback to win three and four Super Bowls, and led the Steelers to eight AFC Central championships. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1989, his first year of eligibility.
  • A tough competitor, Bradshaw had a powerful – albeit at times erratic – arm and called his own plays throughout his football career.[
  • His physical skills and on-the-field leadership played a major role in Pittsburgh Steelers' history.
  • During his career, he passed for more than 300 yards in a game only seven times, but three of those performances came in the postseason, and two of those in Super Bowls. In four career Super Bowl appearances, he passed for 932 yards and 9 touchdowns, both Super Bowl records at the time of his retirement. In 19 postseason games, he completed 261 passes for 3,833 yards.
