Stockbridge soldier celebrated in ceremony

Posted: Updated:
STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. -

A Georgia community is coming together to say goodbye to a fallen soldier. Staff Sergeant Eric Lawson was killed in Afghanistan in July. The family waited until Sunday to hold his memorial service.

For the second Sunday in north Georgia, a police escort and Patriot Guard riders as red, white and blue lined the streets in a show of solidarity and support.

The family of Staff Sergeant Lawson entered the church service under full military honors and despite the time that has passed, they sounded like a family still hurting.

Even through the tears were still falling, the tone and tune of the service changed as family wanted to really say happy birthday.

Sunday would have been Lawson's 31st birthday and through the mourning, they found a way to make this service into a celebration of life.
