Meatless Monday: Veggie burgers done right

Get this recipe courtesy of Chef Joe Nader, from Levy Restaurants at Ford Field. This recipe makes six burgers.

2oz. BBQ sauce
1 T. molasses
1 lb. canned and drained black beans
2 cups cooked brown rice
½ cup oat bran
2 oz. minced white onions
1 T. chopped canned beets
½ T. beet juice from can
½ t. chili powder
¼ t. cayenne pepper
1 T. kosher salt
1 T. minced pickled jalapeno
2 each egg whites
Cook the rice and cool. Grind the beans in a food processor. Mix rice, beans, oats and onions
By hand thoroughly, add remaining ingredients and mix well again. Form into 5 oz. patties, chill for one hour. Grill on flat surface griddle for service.

For Assembly:
6 each Wheat bun
6 each Veggie burger patty
6 oz. Bbq sauce (1 oz. per patty)
6 each Cheddar cheese slices
6 each Leaf lettuce
12 each Roma tomatoes sliced (2 per patty)
