NJ to use Sandy money for boardwalk fire cleanup

Posted: Updated:

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. (AP) — The Christie administration says it will use Superstorm Sandy-recovery money to pay for debris removal at the scene of the boardwalk fire in Seaside Park and Seaside Heights.

The administration says it hopes the extra aid will speed the rebuilding.

State officials will be on hand Monday afternoon to offer assistance to businesses and residents affected by Thursday's fire, which destroyed four blocks of boardwalk businesses.

Representatives from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority and other agencies will provide information at the Seaside Heights Municipal Complex.

Over the weekend Gov. Chris Christie also pledged $15 million in state aid to the burned businesses, also using Sandy recovery money.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

For decades, making some quick cash was the main drive behind so many who took the ride down the parkway to Atlantic City. But with so much to choose from nowadays, it looks like Atlantic City is in a lot of trouble.
