Father and son rescued after canoe capsizes

Posted: Updated:
LIVONIA, Mich. (WJBK) -

The Livonia Fire Dept. responded to a 911 call Monday night about a capsized canoe on Newburg Lake at Newburg Rd. and Edward Hines Dr.

A father and son were fishing when their canoe flipped over, tossing them both out of the boat and into the water.

John Hickling and his son, Sam, were both wearing life jackets and were able to stay with the boat until rescue crews came.

A citizen nearby, Devonte Bradford, saw what happened and called 911.

The fire department brought out their rescue boat and was able to safely remove them and the canoe from the water.
