SANDWICH, Mass. (AP) — Two 17-year-old Sandwich High School students are facing larceny charges after allegedly going door-to-door soliciting donations posing as student council members.
Police started investigating after receiving calls Sunday from residents suspicious about the two teens.
After speaking with residents, police identified the suspects. They also found a box labeled "Sandwich High Student Council" and "Thank you for your donation" in the woods. The teens had collected about $30.
The students were not arrested. They have not been identified publicly by police because they are being summonsed to Barnstable District Court to answer to the charges.
Schools superintendent C. Richard Canfield tells the Cape Cod Times (http://bit.ly/1elcvin ) the district is reviewing its fundraising policies, but he doesn't think going to door-to-door is a good idea.
