Mass. Rep. sees review of military security

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (AP) — A member of the Massachusetts congressional delegation says he expects a review of security procedures at U.S. military installations in the wake of a deadly shooting rampage at the Washington Navy Yard.

U.S. Rep. John Tierney said the incident should serve as another catalyst for Congress to act on what he called "reasonable" measures to strengthen the nation's gun laws.

The Democrat and national security committee member spoke to reporters on Tuesday after attending a Statehouse ceremony honoring Massachusetts military units.

He said Monday's shooting appeared to be an "isolated incident" involving a "very disturbed individual" who should not have had access to weapons.

The FBI said Aaron Alexis, an employee with a defense contractor, opened fire inside a building, killing 12 people before he was killed by police.
