Homeowner outsmarts thief, pistol-whipped in return

WARREN, Mich. (WJBK) -

Police say an attempted robber arrived at a residence on Norma St. in Warren. The homeowner answered the door and the suspect pulled a gun on him and demanded money and jewelry, as the homeowner's brother is known to sell gold from the residence.

The homeowner then invited the suspect to the bedroom, saying extra cash and jewelry is kept there under the bed.

But, instead of the wanted goods, the homeowner pulled out a gun and shot the suspect three times. The suspect pistol-whipped the homeowner in return before running out of the house.

To pistol-whip someone is to hit or beat the person with a pistol, typically in the head or the upper body region.

The suspect got into the car of an accomplice waiting outside, who drove him to St. John hospital and dropped him off in the parking lot before driving away. Police are looking for that accomplice believed to be a white male driving a four-door 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis. The vehicle is silver or light blue.

The homeowner was also badly injured and was taken to a different hospital, police say.
