Boston mayoral candidates discuss police commissioner's fate in crucial debate

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Ten of the 12 candidates for mayor of Boston participated in their final debate Thursday before the preliminary election.

Candidates at the UMass Boston forum answered questions about casino gambling, education, diversity on the police force, and their favorite sports moments.

All of the candidates were asked to answer whether or not Police Commissioner Ed Davis should remain in his post by saying "staying, undecided, or leaving."

Here is how the candidates responded:

Bill  Walczak: "Staying"
John Connolly: "Undecided"
Charles Yancey: "Leaving"
John Barros: "It needs a full review"
Charlotte Golar Richie: "Undecided, full review"
Felix Arroyo: "Staying"
Charles Clemons: "Leave, look at his track record"
Michael Ross: "Undecided"
Dan Conley: "Staying"
Martin Walsh: "Full review"

Davis made national headlines as a key figure in the Boston Marathon bombings investigation. He has been a rumored potential candidate for the next secretary of homeland security.

David James Wyatt and Rob Consalvo did not participate in Thursday's forum. A spokesperson for Consalvo told FOX 25 he spent the day campaigning in his "All In Tour" of several areas in the city.

Voters will narrow the field of candidates to two in Tuesday's preliminary election.
