GVSU sculpture removal prompts T-shirts for charity

ALLENDALE, Mich. (AP) -

A Michigan school's decision to remove a swinging sculpture that students had been riding on more often since the release of Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" video has prompted a charity fundraiser.

WOOD-TV reports "Reinstall the Ball" T-shirts are being sold at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.

The school said Tuesday it took down the sculpture and placed it in storage amid concerns about student safety. On Wednesday, it released a photo showing a cable holding it was deteriorating.

In the video, Cyrus appears without clothes on a swinging wrecking ball. Photos and video of people doing the same on the sculpture recently surfaced online. The school said it earlier was considering what to do with the artwork.
