One Killed In Plane Crash In Hamilton Township

Posted: Updated:

A small plane crash Friday afternoon in Atlantic County leaves one person dead.

Investigators are trying to figure out what caused the plane to go down in a wooded area of Hamilton Township, not far from Atlantic City International Airport.

"We looked up and we heard the engine going down. You could just tell it wasn't a normal plane," said Doug Schuster.

He was doing work on his roof on Orange Street in Hamilton Township when he heard a disturbing noise that forced him to look up toward the sky.

"We looked up and the plane was just cock-eyed. It was almost upside down and we kept watching it and watching it. Then it nose dived straight down," said Schuster, who saw the plane go down but did not hear it crash.

"The debris was coming down. I saw pieces of red all in the sky," he said.

The Federal Aviation Administration says it was just before 5 p.m. when the home built aircraft crashed in a wooded area. SkyFOX flew over the wreckage about five miles west of the airport, near the A.C. Expressway.

Schuster was shaken up to hear someone was killed after what he witnessed.

"I felt something. There's a plane going down so there's somebody inside there."

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. The victim's name has not been released.
