COWETA COUNTY, Ga. -

An early morning single-car wreck on Saturday killed a Heard County teen and injured three Coweta County teens.

According to a Georgia State Patrol spokesperson, a 1998 Toyota 4-Runner was traveling on Smokey Road near Country Lane around 3 a.m. Saturday when it started to swerve on and off the road before eventually overturning.

The driver, 17-year-old Brian Shelnutt and passenger, Austin Walker Pope, 16, of Franklin, were ejected from the SUV. Pope was killed at the scene. Shelnutt was taken by air in critical condition to Atlanta Medical Center.

Braxton Kexavier Tucker, of Grantville, and Andrew Daryl Mask, of Newnan, both 17, were treated at Atlanta Medical Center for injuries and later released.

Troopers are investigating if alcohol was a factor in the crash. Neither of the two teens was wearing seatbelts.
