Falcons woes dampen stadium excitement

ATLANTA -

Fan excitement over the new billion dollar stadium was tempered by a less-than-spectacular performance on the field by the team on Sunday.

The Falcons were defeated by the Miami Dolphins, 27-23, on the same day that Friendship Baptist Church approved a deal to sell its property to make way for the new stadium.

Both churches that sit on the "south" site, the preferred location for the new stadium, have now agreed to terms to sell their land.

Atlanta City Councilmember C.T. Martin urges fans to keep the faith.

"One thing you cannot control is who gets hurt, and so when you look at -- I think there as I saw it -- there were about five or six key players that were out on Sunday," Martin said.

Some lifelong Falcons said that they believed the team could turn things around and end up in the Super Bowl at the end of the season.

The road won't get easier on Sunday: the 1-2 Falcons take on the undefeated New England Patriots.
