NH man charged for loaning car to driver in fatal cyclist crash

SEABROOK, NH (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A 19-year-old New Hampshire man was issued a summons Thursday amid allegations that the woman accused of fatally hitting two cyclists was driving his car.

Scott Martin, of Seabrook, N.H., was served a summons based on a warrant and complaint filed by Hampton police. He is charged with allowing an improper person to operate, which is a violation level offense.

Investigators allege Martin allowed 19-year-old Darriean Hess to drive his 2002 Honda.

Hess, who does not have a license to operate, is accused of driving the Honda into a group of four bicyclists on Ocean Avenue in Hampton Saturday. Two of the bicyclists were killed.

Police claim speed and "inattention" were factors in the crash.

Martin's charges come one day after 48-year-old Cindy Sheppard, of Hampton, was charged with supplying the painkiller fentanyl to Hess hours before the Saturday morning crash. She is also facing a charge of allowing an improper person to operate.

Hess was held on $50,000 bail on charges of negligent homicide and second-degree assault during her arraignment Wednesday.
