Machine gun found at JFK

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Port Authority Police are investigating the discovery of a MAC-11 subcompact machine pistol at John F. Kennedy Airport on Thursday.

The gun was found in an area of the terminal that is closed to the general public due to construction. A contractor running cable through the ceiling of a management office found a case in a storage closet, the Port Authority's Joe Pentangelo said. The contractor found the gun inside the case.

"The office, which is locked, and only accessible to a few people, is located outside the terminal's secure area," Pentangelo said. "The contractor immediately notified the Port Authority Police Dept., who responded and took possession of the weapon. The Port Authority is investigating whether or not the weapon is operable. No ammunition was found in or near the weapon."
