Orlando Jones: The Headless Horseman Has Awakened

Posted: Updated:

You remember Orlando Jones from "MadTV," the movies "Office Space" and "Evolution," not to mention all the writing he's done beginning with the Cosby spinoff "A Different World."

Now, he's back on TV with the new show "Sleepy Hollow."  If you're not familiar with the legendary tale and how it's being adapted for TV, here's how Orlando explains it.

"There was a fight between good and evil happening during the Revolutionary War, and when we talk about how America was founded, we only talk about the Revolutionary War, but we don't talk about the larger war that was going on," Orlando says.  "So, George Washington knew of this larger war, and he handed an order to a captain named Ichabod Crane, and Ichabod Crane wasn't British, but he became a sympathizer and a spy on behalf of Americans on the British."

Orlando goes on, "He goes to kill this soldier, and he chops his head off, and then they mix bloodlines, and that guy turns out to be the Headless Horseman. The larger war is the war between good and evil, and he's one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. 250 years later, the Headless Horseman wakes up and Ichabod Crane wakes up with him, and he has no idea why. He just thinks he killed a guy on the battlefield. And the battle of good and evil continues as we go through the history of this nation on a show called "Sleepy Hollow."

Orlando joins Steve Edwards and Maria Sansone on Good Day L.A.

Fun Facts About Orlando Jones:

  • He is notable for being one of the original cast members of the sketch comedy series MADtv and for his role as the 7 Up spokesman from 1999-2002.
  • To pursue his interest in the entertainment industry, Jones, together with comedian Michael Fechter, formed a production company, Homeboy's Productions and Advertising. Together Jones and Fechter worked on several projects including a McDonald's commercial with basketball superstar Michael Jordan for the McDonald's specialty sandwich the "McJordan".
  • He scored his first Hollywood job in 1987, writing for the NBC comedy A Different World, on which he had a small guest role in the season five finale. During 1991-92, Jones penned the Fox series Roc and, in 1993, he co-produced The Sinbad Show. He also made a brief appearance on the FOX sitcom Herman's Head in 1992.
