Charlton woman charged with OUI after speeding past Leicester officer

Posted: Updated:

LEICESTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A Charlton woman was arrested Friday after police accused her of driving under the influence and narrowly missing a police officer standing on the side of the road.

Jennifer Reis, 21, is charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for a police officer, speeding, marked lanes violation, and failure to stop for a stop sign.

A Leicester police officer claims he was out of his cruiser conducting a traffic stop just after 12 a.m. when he witnessed Reis approaching at a high rate of speed. He says Reis skidded nearly 158 feet as she approached the intersection of Stafford and Pleasant streets before continuing through a stop sign. Reis is accused of accelerating as she past the officer, narrowly missing him.

The officer returned to his cruiser and attempted to stop the car. He accuses Reis of fleeing from him for a short period of time before finally stopping.

Reis told the officer she was hurrying home due to a medical emergency at her residence. A cruiser was dispatched to her home to check on the medical emergency and found there was no ongoing incident at the house.

Leicester police say Reis failed several field sobriety tests. She was arrested and scheduled for arraignment Friday.
