FALL RIVER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A Fall River police officer escaped serious injury Saturday after a Fall River man swerved in and out of a funeral procession hitting the officer in the process.

As a result of the incident, police arrested three individuals: 44-year-old Jose Figueroa-Cruz, 36-year-old Carmen Vazquez, and 60-year-old Wanda Martinez. All of the individuals are from Fall River.

Figueroa-Cruz has been charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and outstanding warrants for past motor vehicle violations.

Vazquez has been charged with misleading the police because she told officers she was the one driving when witnesses told police Figueroa-Cruz was driving.

Martinez, Vazquez's mother, has been charged with interfering with a police officer and resisting arrest.

According to police, the injured officer was on a motorcycle and escorting the funeral procession when he was struck. He was thrown through the windshield of the motorcycle, onto the hood of Figueroa-Cruz's car, and then was slammed onto the road.

The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries and has since been released.
