"It goes from zero to 60 in four seconds. It's the fastest four-door luxury sedan on the road," boasts Kathy Skubik, proud owner of a custom Tesla Model-S.
Skubik designed it, down to the color, trim and leather seats. Six weeks after ordering it the car arrived from California.
"I drove a Toyota for my whole life and I wanted to switch over to an American car, and then at the same time, it was very important to me to have a nice, comfortable luxury car and one that was good for the environment," Skubik tells Fox 2's Robin Schwartz.
Skubik has had the car since early September, but is still getting used to the new technology, such as the dashboard touchscreen that controls everything. The technology in the car offers so many options, it's been called the "best car ever made."
That kind of luxury comes at a price tag, though. The car costs upwards of $70,000 but is great on the environment.
Skubik says going electric is easy, and that she can drive 240 miles on a fully-charged battery. An app on her smartphone even tells her how many miles she has left to drive.
"Someone asked me ... 'What happens if you run out of electricity?' I go, 'The same thing that happens if you run out of gas.' You just plan ahead," Skubik says.
The car takes 24hours to charge in a standard outlet, and just two hours with a 240-volt hookup, which Skubik is waiting for. Tesla's installing those stations but, right now, there are none in Michigan yet.
