You doctor may tell you it's best to stay away from salt. But a Naperville health spa says it is the perfect ingredient to relieve stress, improve sleep and even cure a hangover.

So, can an hour in a salt cave really cure your ills? The magic caves lined in Himalayan salt are said to provide health benefits, but the question must be left to science to prove whether it's true or not.

Jody Buckle and Dr. Janine Gauthier Mullady joined Good Day Chicago Thursday morning to weigh in on the salt cave debate.

Buckle's salt cave was one of the first in the nation, and cost about $250,000 to build. She has regular clients that come once a week for salt therapy that works for them. She said there aren't any guarantees on the treatments being a "cure-all," but her clients really believe it works.

Dr. Guthier Mullady also addressed doctors' questions about injesting additional sodium, and the effect s that can have on the body. The doctor also discussed whether salt therapy may just have the placebo effect on people.
