TEMPLETON, Mass. (AP) - A former Worcester man is facing charges in connection with the death of a developmentally disabled Athol man after an assault at a state-run center for the mentally disabled in Templeton.

Anthony Remillard was ordered held without bail and ordered to undergo a competency evaluation at his arraignment Wednesday in Gardner District Court on a charge of assault and battery on a disabled person with serious bodily injury. A not guilty plea was entered.

A spokesman for the Worcester District Attorney's Office tells The Telegram & Gazette the 22-year-old Remillard is accused of assaulting 64-year-old Dennis Perry, who died last Friday at the hospital. The alleged assault occurred Sept. 16 at the Templeton Developmental Center.
